USound has announced a major milestone in the audio technology industry with the establishment of the first unified standards for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) speakers. The new standards, known as the “General Technical Requirements for Miniature MEMS Speakers,” were published on June 26th, 2024, and will officially come into effect on December 25th, 2024. This groundbreaking development marks a significant step toward ensuring consistency and high quality in the MEMS speaker industry.
USound’s Leading Role
USound’s Conamara speakers are the first MEMS speakers to attain the distinguished Level 1 classification for excellent quality, setting them apart in the market. The standards, drafted in line with GB/T 1.1—2020 and overseen by the Shenzhen Audio Industry Association, set a new benchmark for design, testing, and production.
The drafting committee included major industry players such as USound, Metro Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, Shenzhen Shaoyin Technology Co., Ltd, Ruixing Kaitai Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, Suzhou Acoustics Industry Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd, and Jingtuo Lixin Technology (Beijing) Co. USound’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Andrea Rusconi-Clerici, played a pivotal role in the development of these standards, representing the sole foreign entity involved.
Importance of Unified Standards
The establishment of these standards is a significant achievement for the MEMS speaker industry, providing clear guidelines for labeling, transportation, storage, and overall product quality. These standards are crucial for ensuring that all MEMS speakers meet a high level of reliability and performance, thus benefiting consumers and manufacturers alike.
Andrea Rusconi-Clerici, CTO at USound, expressed pride in the company’s contribution: “We are honoured to be selected to contribute to the establishment of the first uniform standards for MEMS speakers in Shenzhen, China. This initiative marks a major milestone for the MEMS speaker industry, ensuring consistency, reliability, and high quality across all products. The excellent classification of USound MEMS speakers is a formal recognition of our commitment to meticulous quality assurance.”
Key Features of USound MEMS Speakers
The new standards provide a comprehensive framework for the MEMS speaker industry. USound’s Conamara and Ganymede series were used as reference models in developing these standards. Conamara microspeakers have been recognized as the “thinnest Class 1 compliant speakers” available, featuring a wide bandwidth of up to 40 kHz. Their compact form factor makes them an ideal choice for miniaturized audio devices, setting a new standard for high-quality sound in a small package.
As the industry transitions to these new standards, USound remains at the forefront of MEMS technology innovation. The company’s commitment to high-quality and reliable audio solutions continues to drive advancements in the field, setting new benchmarks for performance and consistency. https://usound.com/
