Celebrating the Giant Panda: A National Treasure
The giant panda is not only a national treasure of China but also an international symbol of conservation and ecological balance. As a cherished ambassador for global biodiversity, the giant panda represents the urgent need for collaborative efforts in environmental protection. China’s commitment to the preservation of these beloved creatures serves as a protective umbrella, fostering an ecosystem that benefits numerous other species sharing their habitat. Individuals, organisations, and communities dedicated to ecological advancement, environmental friendliness, and sustainable development are welcomed as “panda partners.”
GPP 2024: A Platform for Global Cooperation
With the theme “Coexistence Between Human and Nature, GPP 2024 aims to reinforce the philosophy that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. The event will highlight the stories of beautiful Sichuan, showcase the wonders of China, and promote the principles of ecological progress worldwide. Emphasising the principles of “conservation, sustainability, and collaboration, the event will include an opening ceremony, a culture and creativity contest, along with a range of additional activities. Participants will include governmental representatives, professionals, and passionate individuals, all convening to engage in cross-border, cross-temporal, and cross-cultural dialogues aimed at fostering collaborative efforts among Panda Partners.
A Comprehensive Programme for Ecological Dialogue
The GPP serves as a vital platform for dialogue and exchange, facilitating consensus-building for global ecological advancement. The programme for the opening ceremony includes the launch of a think tank report on ecological progress, collaboratively prepared by reputable organisations and New China Research (NCR), the think tank of the Xinhua News Agency. Prominent experts and scholars from around the world will present keynote addresses and engage in comprehensive discussions. Additionally, the event will announce the lists of “Panda Partner Cities” and “Panda Partner Brands,” while guests will be invited to collectively proclaim the “Panda Conservation Declaration.” The GPP will also collaborate with healthcare institutions, panda protection organisations, and social welfare groups to conduct public activities related to giant pandas.
Cultural Exchange and Creative Collaboration
In addition to its formal proceedings, GPP 2024 will organise a variety of events, including a global panda partner Sichuan tour and discussions on the protection of flagship species like the giant panda. Cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries will also be a key focus, fostering a deeper appreciation for the role of these majestic creatures in global conservation efforts.
As part of GPP 2024, the “Panda Homeland” Culture • Creativity Contest aims to engage creative talents worldwide. Participants are encouraged to submit original works centred on giant pandas and their cultural impact. The contest features five main categories for the “Best Creation” awards, including “Best Sculpture,” along with three special awards recognising unique contributions.
