Innovative Partnership Aims to Revolutionise Animal Feed Ingredients
Allozymes, a pioneer in enzyme discovery and engineering, has announced a strategic partnership with Adisseo, a global leader in animal nutrition. This collaboration aims to develop cutting-edge bioprocesses for producing animal feed ingredients, marking a significant advancement towards a more sustainable future in the industry. This partnership also highlights Allozymes’ expansion into Europe earlier this year.
Custom Enzymes for Sustainable Production
As part of this partnership, Allozymes will focus on designing and optimising enzymes tailored to Adisseo’s production objectives and its ambition to lead the global market. The initial project will centre on developing a novel, environmentally friendly process for methionine production.
Methionine, an essential amino acid for animal health, growth, and performance, is traditionally produced through chemical processes that have a considerable environmental impact. Allozymes seeks to tackle this challenge by using its advanced technology to develop manufacturing processes that are both more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Rapid Microfluidics Technology
Allozymes’ proprietary microfluidics platform allows for the rapid design, screening, and optimisation of enzymes. Unlike traditional methods, which rely on slower protein engineering techniques, Allozymes’ technology can simultaneously evaluate millions of enzyme candidates. This approach ensures the selection of the most effective enzyme in a significantly shorter timeframe.
Our microfluidics platform allows us to quickly analyse and optimise many enzyme variations at the same time. This efficiency is essential for developing customised enzymes that meet our partners’ specific needs, such as those of Adisseo,” explained Akbar Vahidi, CTO of Allozymes.
Expansion into Europe and Global Impact
Peyman Salehian, CEO of Allozymes, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Our collaboration with Adisseo is particularly exciting, coinciding with our recent European expansion. Partnering with a leader in feed additives allows us to address the global demand for biosolutions in animal feed production more effectively. Our innovative enzymatic platform, combined with Adisseo’s expertise, promises a substantial impact at an accelerated pace.”
Commitment to Sustainability
Jean-François Rous, Executive VP Innovation at Adisseo, emphasised the importance of the partnership: “Collaborating with Allozymes marks a major step forward in our dedication to sustainable practices. Their innovative microfluidics technology has the potential to transform our production processes, enabling us to meet the growing demand for animal nutrition while reducing our environmental footprint.”
Building on Previous Success
This new collaboration follows a successful initial project aimed at enhancing a key enzyme in Adisseo’s synthetic metabolic pathway. Using Allozymes’ microfluidics platform, which screened millions of variants, an enzyme meeting the project’s success criteria was identified within months, surpassing the original timeline.
The partnership between Allozymes and Adisseo is set to revolutionise the production of animal feed ingredients. This partnership delivers a cleaner, more efficient solution compared to traditional methods, setting the stage for a more sustainable future in animal agriculture.
